New Communications Director for the Iowa Department of Corrections

(DES MOINES) - The Iowa Department of Corrections Director Jerry Bartruff announced today that Cord Overton will serve as Communications Director for the Iowa Department of Corrections. Overton succeeds Fred Scaletta who retired from the position in February of 2017.

“Our work in Corrections greatly benefits by focusing on communications,” Bartruff said. “I have great confidence that Cord will be a reliable source of information that various members of the news media from around the state can rely on, and will also help expand the public’s awareness of the many good things going on within Iowa Corrections.”

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve Iowans and assist in the important work going on in the Iowa Department of Corrections,” Overton said. “The mission of the Iowa Department of Corrections is to ‘create opportunities for safer communities.’ The people that work in Corrections put this mission into action every day, and I will do my best to help communicate what that means to the public.”

Overton, 31, is originally from Waterloo, Iowa and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University and Master of Public Policy degree from University of Northern Iowa. He previously served as a Policy Advisor for former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds and current Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg.
