The Iowa Department of Corrections is committed to effective, evidence-based and research-informed practices and programs for offenders in institutions and on community supervision. Analysis of pertinent trends, research on recidivism, validation of risk assessment tools, and maintaining a performance measurement system are some of the regular activities that also contribute to the Department’s mission.

These datasets are updated every 6 months. 

Tips for using data.iowa.gov database: 

  • Go to data.iowa.gov
  • Click on Public Safety
  • On left hand side under categories - click on down arrow by public safety and then choose correctional system. 
  • There are then 73 results that come up. 
  • Can click on the title of the report and then scroll on the page (towards bottom is a table preview of all the fields available) to filter or can just click the export in the top right of screen to a CSV or CSV for Excel file format, etc. and then can manipulate the data accordingly.
