MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Corrections and the Marshalltown Central Business District (MCBD) have joined forces in an innovative partnership to enhance the appearance of Marshalltown's downtown area. This initiative, aptly named “Clean Downtown, Bright Community,” aims to keep the streets neat and tidy while fostering community pride.

Weekly Schedule· Every Wednesday (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Activities

· Clients wear high-visibility vests

· Clients patrol downtown quadrants, picking up litter and spraying weeds

Clients are chosen through a rigorous application process at the Residential Center. Over the past six weeks, participants have collected over 400 pounds of debris. The Department of Corrections is committed to community engagement and rehabilitation. Through programs like “Clean Downtown, Bright Community,” clients gain valuable skills while contributing to the well-being of our city.

“Our partnership not only maintains a clean and attractive downtown, but also empowers clients to develop self-efficacy and take pride in their community,” said Executive Director Deb Millizer. “We are thrilled to see the positive impact of this collaboration.”
