Mark Covey

Mark Covey was named the Director of the 3rd District in April 2025.

Covey brings more than 25 years of public safety and Corrections experience to his new role, along with a deep connection to the communities he will continue to serve.

A familiar and respected leader within the District, Covey most recently served as the assistant director, where he oversaw both field and residential operations. He played a key role in shaping District-wide policies, managing investigations, guiding strategic initiatives, and strengthening relationships with law enforcement and community partners across northwest Iowa.

Covey began his DOC career in 2006 as a probation/parole officer, later becoming a supervisor before moving into District leadership. His earlier career included service as a police officer with both the Sioux City and Hartley Police Departments.

Covey holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with an emphasis in criminal justice from Northwestern College and a Master’s degree in administrative studies from the University of South Dakota.
