DES MOINES â€“ The Iowa Department of Corrections (DOC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Deanne Krumm as the new Assistant Deputy Director of Institutional Operations at Central Office.

Krumm brings over 30 years of experience in government and investigative services, with a strong background in military discipline, criminal and employee investigations, financial audits, policy development, and operational planning. Her expertise in legal analysis and compliance oversight makes her a valuable addition to the department’s leadership team.

"Deanne has been an incredible asset to the Department of Corrections, and we are thrilled to have her step into this leadership role," said Director Dr. Beth Skinner. "Her experience in investigations, compliance, and operational leadership will strengthen our department’s commitment to safety, accountability, and continuous improvement."

Most recently, Krumm served as Supervisor of the Division of Investigative Services at Central Office, overseeing department-wide investigations and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) compliance. Prior to that, she was the Associate Warden of Administration at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women (ICIW) in Mitchellville, where she played a key role in administrative and operational leadership.

"Deanne has demonstrated a deep understanding of institutional operations and investigative processes," said Deputy Director of Institutional Operations Nick Lamb. "Her ability to develop policies, manage complex investigations, and lead teams with integrity makes her the perfect fit for this role. I look forward to working with her to enhance our department's operational effectiveness."

Before joining the Iowa DOC, Krumm served as Compliance Officer 2 for the Iowa Department of Commerce’s Alcoholic Beverages Division, later becoming team lead in 2021. Her career also includes several leadership and investigative roles within the Australian Defense Force, where she served as an investigations manager, operations manager, and training manager.

"I am honored to take on this role and continue working alongside such a dedicated team," said Krumm. "I am committed to strengthening our institutional operations, enhancing safety and compliance efforts, and ensuring we provide the best possible environment for staff and individuals in our facilities. I look forward to contributing to the department’s ongoing success."

Krumm holds a Bachelor of Policing (Investigations) from Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, Australia, and has further honed her leadership skills through the Public Manager Program at Drake University.
