DES MOINES – Homes for Iowa, Inc. delivered one of its newly built homes to the Iowa State Fair for the second time. The home display is located just west of the Varied Industries Building and will be open to the public throughout the Fair, offering a unique opportunity to step inside, tour the layout, and learn more about how Homes for Iowa is tackling the state’s affordable housing shortage.
Fairgoers are encouraged to walk through the home, speak with representatives, and even begin the process of purchasing a home. Homes for Iowa builds affordable, high-quality modular homes in partnership with the Iowa Department of Corrections and Iowa Prison Industries, offering workforce training to incarcerated individuals and helping communities across the state access much-needed housing options.
"We’re thrilled to once again bring a home to the Iowa State Fair," said David Miller, Executive Director of Homes for Iowa. "It’s a great way to show Iowans the power of collaboration and ultimately what we’re building—not just homes, but stronger communities and second chances."
Homes for Iowa offers statewide delivery of quality-built homes that are nearly move-in ready with standard finishes. After purchase, buyers have the flexibility to tailor interior elements such as flooring, paint and appliances to suit their personal preferences. This innovative program not only expands access to affordable homeownership across Iowa, but also reduces recidivism and builds a skilled workforce for the future.
