DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Corrections is pleased to announce the promotion of Dawn Hansen to the position of Human Resource Director. Hansen brings a wealth of experience and a proven commitment to supporting staff across the state.
Hansen began her career with the Department as a correctional counselor at the Newton Correctional Facility before moving into Community-Based Corrections, where she served in a variety of roles including community program monitor, probation/parole officer, and supervisor. She later transitioned to Central Office, serving as the Residential Services Manager and most recently as Field Services Manager.
“Dawn is innovative, experienced, and a true team player,” said Director Beth Skinner. “She has demonstrated a strong ability to lead with vision and collaboration, and I am confident she will continue to foster a positive culture and drive excellence in our HR department.”
“I am honored and excited for this new chapter,” said Hansen. “I have always said that working with some of the best people across the state, from west to east and north to south, has inspired me to do better for this organization. That is what this new role is all about for me—continuing to support my colleagues and building on the great work we are already doing together.”
Hansen holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. She has been a champion of employee wellness and organizational culture throughout her career, and she looks forward to carrying that focus into her leadership of the Human Resource Department.
