The Iowa Department of Corrections announced Shannon Archer as its Legal Counsel in Dec. 2024. Archer brings a wealth of legal experience, having served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Iowa Attorney General’s Office Civil Litigation Division and the Polk County Attorney's Office. Her extensive expertise in litigation, advocacy, and education uniquely positions her to contribute significantly to the DOC’s mission of promoting public safety and justice.
Throughout her career, Archer has conducted over 50 jury trials, including multiple homicide cases, and has become a nationally recognized expert and educator on domestic violence, sexual abuse, and related legal challenges.
Archer earned her law degree with honors from Drake University and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, cum laude, from Wartburg College.
